최민정의 질주, 결국엔 해피엔딩이었다.쇼트트랙 국가대표 최민정(24·성남시청)이 16일 중국 베이징 서우두체육관에서 열린 2022 베이징겨울올림픽 쇼트트랙 여자 1500m에서 금메달을 목에 건 뒤 환하게 웃었다. 평창 때 무심한 표정으로 ‘얼음공주’라는 별명까지 얻었지만, 이번 대회에선 울고 웃으며 더욱 뜨거운 올림픽을 치렀다. 우여곡절도 있었지만, 드라마의 끝은 환한 미소였다.최민정은 이날 경기가 끝난 뒤 기자들과 만나 “너무 좋아서 믿기지 않는다”고 했다. 지난달 충북 진천 국가대표선수촌에서 열린 미디어데이 때 “쇼트트랙은 역시 한국이란 말을 듣고 싶다”고 했던 최민정은 “저뿐만 아니라 모든 선수가 같이 노력하면서 좋은 결과를 만들어내서 역시 쇼트트랙은 대한민국이라는 말을 지킬 수 있었던 것 같다. 응원해주시는 분들에게 감사하다”라며 웃었다.
2018년 평창 대회에 이어 1500m 2연패를 달성한 최민정은 “이번 대회 마지막 종목이기도 했고, 2연패 도전이라는 점에서 생각하고 신경 쓸 게 있었는데 좋은 결과로 이어져서 더 기분 좋고 뿌듯하다”고 했다. 그는 또 “평창올림픽 때 처음이어서 힘들지만 잘 이겨냈다고 생각했다. 베이징 때는 경험이 생겨서 괜찮을 거라 생각했는데 역시 올림픽답게 생각 이상으로 힘든 것 같다”며 “어쨌든 마무리가 좋아서 다행”이라고 했다.
평창에 이어 베이징에서도 최민정은 쉬자너 스휠팅(네덜란드), 아리안나 폰타나(이탈리아) 등 쟁쟁한 선수와 맞붙었다. 최민정은 “4년 동안 좋은 선수들과 좋은 경기를 펼칠 수 있었다는 게 선수로서 너무 좋은 일인 것 같다. 이렇게 선의의 경쟁을 하면서 서로 발전하는 게 선수로선 기쁜 일”이라고 했다. 이번 대회에선 세 선수가 각각 평창에 이어 각각 500m(폰타나), 1000m(스휠팅), 1500m(최민정) 2연패를 달성했다.올림픽에서 메달 5개(금메달 3개+은메달 2개)라는 고지에 오른 최민정의 다음 목표는 뭘까. 최민정은 “평창올림픽을 준비할 때도 베이징올림픽은 생각을 못했다. 베이징을 준비할 때도 밀라노는 생각을 못했다”라며 “그 부분은 일단 좀 쉬면서 생각해봐야 할 것 같다”고 했다. 그는 또 “메달을 많이 땄는데 절대 저 혼자 잘해서 많이 땄다고 생각하지 않는다. 많이 딴 만큼, 많은 분이 도와주셨다. 도와주신 모든 분께 감사를 드리고 싶다”고 전했다.
